Comprehending Complex Concepts
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent theories of concepts have raised the issue of how people combine simple concepts (like engine and repalr) to form complex concepts (like engine repalr). This article approaches this issue by asking how people comprehend modified noun phrases of this sort. One explanation of how complex concepts are understood (the feature weighting model) provides a simple mechanism in which the primary feoture of the modifying concept is made more salient in the modified concept. Another explonotion focuses on how world knowledge directs the combination process. The two explanations ore compared in their ability to account far the interpretation of various kinds of noun phrases. Two experiments ore reported which evaluate the feoture weighting model’s predictions for adjectivenoun phrases. These contrasts suggest that the combination process does require reference to world knowledge. The consequences of accepting such on account ore discussed.

Model-based system development emphasizes the usage of models throughout the development process. In such an approach, modeling becomes of central importance, forming a basis for documentation, communication, decision-making, and design automation. As this design paradigm becomes gradually adopted for the development of embedded computer control applications, new modeling requirements become ap...

متن کاملKnowledge Representation of Requirements Documents Using Natural Language Processing
Complex systems such as automotive software systems are usually broken down into subsystems that are specified and developed in isolation and afterwards integrated to provide the functionality of the desired system. This results in a large number of requirements documents for each subsystem written by different people and in different departments. Requirements engineers are challenged by compre...
